Healing Crisis

In any energy healing modality, usually people experience deep relaxations, stress relief, and some improvements of the issues they have. Reiki and other energy healing modalities work non-invasively, and affect positively to your Body-Mind in all levels.

However, after a session or attunement, you may temporary experience symptoms called “Healing Crisis” or “Cleansing Reaction.” It happens when a great deal of purification and cleansing takes place when you work with energy as part of the healing process.

In Healing Crisis, you may feel the old symptoms returned, or get worse, because of the suppressed conditions come to the surface to be released.

The symptoms includes cold or flue like symptoms, fatigue, muscle and joint pain, headache, coughing, nausea, insomnia, diarrhea or constipation, etc.

Also in healing process, uncomfortable emotions and thought patterns come to the surface from unconscious to conscious level, and you may experience some disturbances in emotional and mental states.

It may cause some symptoms such as strong emotional reactions, anxiety, depression, and mood swings.

If the issues are chronic and held in you long time, you may experience Healing Crisis heavily when you release a great amount of energy blocks. However, it is very common and usually not to worry or concern.

All of these symptoms are present because of the detoxification and purification in all level, physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Best is to simply allow yourself to observe and experience the changes and acknowledge the old patterns, and let them pass through you. Trust all is happening because it is ready to heal, and accept change and new patterns to come.

What to do in Healing Crisis?

  • Be Gentle with Yourself : Take a good care of yourself. Rest well and sleep well. Eat good food (hopefully something easy to digest, clean and healthy). If you need to be alone, or need to be someone you love and trust, honor that part of yourself. Do not judge.
  • Meditate : Consciously process your energy shifts, including belief systems that is no longer serving you and emotional reactions will help your healing process. Meditation will help you to stay focus in the present moment, and help you to be calm and be peace in your healing.
  • Drink Water : Water helps your cells function and detoxification, and also to ground yourself.
  • Take a Big Breath : Taking a big breath couple of times, and focus on deep breathing for a while. It will calm your nervous system and help to process emotions through diaphragm.
  • Ground Yourself : Do some grounding. Earthing is a great way to ground yourself. Take a walk in nature, do easy movements, take bath, anything to relax and bring you back to now and peace.
  • Surrender : Trust you Body-Mind, and healing is happening for you. Let go and surrender to the release of the symptoms

The symptoms usually last for couple of days and subside naturally. Occasionally, it could last for some weeks in some cases. If the symptoms last too long or worsens, and/or cause you concerns, please seek medical advice.
